Mt. Juliet's Coming-Soon Signs Are Finally Coming Due

How many "opening soon" banners does one stretch of Lebanon Road need before a resident stops believing them?

For the better part of two years, that was the honest question if you drove the corridor between Nonaville Road and North Mt. Juliet Road. Storefronts sat wrapped in construction fencing. Renderings went up before contractors did. Then, starting in April of this year, the signs started coming true, one after another, in a window too tight to be coincidence.

The backlog that built up

The pattern is easiest to see in hindsight. Casa Mezcal Mexican Grill, the sit-down restaurant owners Martin Frias and Jessica Naranjo planned for the old Psychic Readings by Ms. Miller building at 11804 Lebanon Road, was first reported in January 2025 with an owner's estimate of "a month and a half or two months" to opening. By that spring, the estimate had slipped to "later this spring or early summer." The remodel, patio and all, still hadn't opened a year later. As of early June 2026, reporting described the restaurant as being in the final stages of work with a new estimate of mid-June, roughly a year and a half after that first hopeful timeline.

Casa Mezcal wasn't unusual. It was the norm. Nicoletto's Pasta Co. announced its third location, a 3,000-square-foot flagship at 11324 Lebanon Road, in mid-2025 with no construction timeline attached. As of late August 2026, it's still under construction, aimed loosely at fall, with no grand opening date on the calendar. Rock N' Roll Sushi's local franchisees said in the summer of 2025 they hoped to open "early 2026." That window has closed without a confirmed opening.

So when a resident asks why the corridor suddenly feels finished, the honest answer isn't that Mt. Juliet is growing fast. It's been growing fast for years. The real shift is that a backlog of delayed promises started clearing at once.

Five months, not two years

Compare the announcement dates against what actually happened this year, and the compression is obvious.

Spud & Butter, Casa Mezcal, Starbucks, and Einstein Bros. Bagels all crossed their finish lines, or came right up to the edge of them, inside a four-month stretch even though each had been "coming soon" since 2024 or early 2025. That's the actual story: not a corridor that's growing, but a corridor where a year and a half of stalled construction finally let go at roughly the same time.

The domino that started it sits just off North Mt. Juliet Road. Sprouts Farmers Market announced its opening and hiring schedule in late August 2025 and delivered almost exactly on that promise, holding its grand opening October 17, 2025, at 1919 N. Mt. Juliet Road, anchoring the Everette Downs development. It was one of the few projects on this corridor that hit its own stated date without slipping. Ten months later, the rest of the block seems to have caught up to that same discipline.

Why this year, specifically

Part of the answer is capacity, not luck. Mt. Juliet's communications director, Justin Beasley, put it this way in a WKRN interview at the end of 2025:

"I like to say in the last few years, Mt. Juliet has been in its prime."

Beasley also noted that sales tax collections in the city were running at an all-time high heading into 2026, which tracks with what's visible on the ground: enough demand and enough contractor capacity finally lined up to push a backlog of half-finished storefronts across the finish line at once, rather than trickling out one at a time the way they had for the previous two years.

It's also worth noticing who's behind some of these openings. Spud & Butter isn't a chain test kitchen. It's Donna and Leah Jones, mother and daughter, reviving the fast-casual version of a restaurant Donna and her husband first opened in Gordonsville back in 1997. Casa Mezcal's owners live in Mt. Juliet themselves. A few blocks over on Lebanon Road, The Emeraude Bakery, run by Hunter Briley out of a converted former shooting range, is turning out about 140 loaves a week while Briley also co-owns Leon's Famous Deli up the road. The corridor's momentum isn't just corporate real estate deals landing on schedule. A fair share of it is people who already live here, betting on their own street.

Where the signs are still just signs

None of this means the corridor is finished. Nicoletto's Pasta Co. is still a construction site with a season attached to it, not a date. Jimmy John's has a signed lease at Citi Station and nothing else public. Tholos, the Greek and Mediterranean concept planned for Charlie's Place near the train tracks, is described by the property owner as "moving forward," which is real estate speak for no date yet. Rock N' Roll Sushi's early-2026 target has already passed without an opening.

Waffle House is the one worth watching closest. Construction is underway at 12085 Lebanon Road on the site of a former do-it-yourself car wash, and the city's Director of Economic and Community Development, Jennifer Hamblen, confirmed the site had to be raised roughly five feet to meet floodplain requirements before building could even start. That detail alone explains part of why this specific lot took longer than the corridor around it. Company officials say an opening as early as September isn't out of reach, which would put it right on the tail end of this year's cluster.

A year ago, a coffee run, a bagel breakfast, and a sit-down Mexican dinner meant three different drives, at least one of them probably into Nashville or Lebanon proper. This year, for the first time, all three live inside the same half-mile stretch, assuming the last few holdouts land anywhere close to their own targets.

That's the actual claim worth taking away from this stretch of road: not that Mt. Juliet is booming, everyone already knew that, but that 2026 is the year the corridor's two-year backlog of half-built promises finally cleared, mostly within a single summer, and the businesses still stuck on "coming soon" are now the exception instead of the rule.
